Paul Goetz joins the Luftwaffe in 1939 as ground crew.

Sent to France in the summer of 1940.

Chosen for pilot training.

First posting as a fighter pilot is Leningrad,

December 1941

It's minus forty degrees, dark most of the time...

...and they all dread being captured...

 Then in July 1943

 Paul's nightmare comes true

as his engine fails

behind enemy lines...
